6 Tips for Great Summer Skin
Many of us can't wait for summer to arrive. There's just something about warm and relaxed summer days and that we tend to look forward to all year. Summer is a great time for spending time outdoors with family or friends and (best of all!) taking some time off for yourself.
While you’re out enjoying the fabulous weather, remember that your skin needs some extra care in the summer. Whether it's helping it recover from being in the sun, wind or those pesky bug bites, your skin needs a little bit of attention in the warmer months. So use some of that time off to look after your skin to keep it looking great all season long, head to tow.
Keep your skin fresh, calm and protected all summer with the following tips.
1. Gently cleanse with oil.
Summer's extra heat (and sometimes humidity) can make your skin more prone to breakouts.
While it may sound counter-intuitive, oil cleansing can support all skin types, even oily. The idea is that cleansing oil attracts the excess oils ("like attracts like") from your skin without stripping it, so you're left with clean, exfoliated skin that is smooth as silk all year-round.
If you tend to break out in humid weather, exfoliation can deep clean your pores and help keep your skin clear. It also increases circulation and can boost your skin’s natural healing process.
We suggest using a gentle cleansing oil according to your skin type for clean, clear, moisturized summer skin.
2. Use a bacteria-fighting underarm soap.
A natural part of hot summer days is getting sweaty! If you're using a natural deodorant (and if you're not, you really should be!), you may need a little boost in the summer for keeping your deodorant working its best.
Summer is a great time to boost your deodorant with an underarm bar. Using a specially formulated underarm bar removes the bacteria that causes you to be smelly. We suggest kaia naturals underarm bar, or try the Power Couple that comes with the underarm bar and a travel size deodorant.
Wearing your favorite sneakers all day without socks? The underarm bar works great on feet too!
3. Go light on moisturizer.
Summer is a great time to try a lighter, fast-absorbing moisturizer that won’t leave you feeling greasy or shiny on hot days.
We suggest Dr. Alkaitis Organic Soothing Gel, which will soothe and lightly moisturize your summer skin. It is anti-bacterial, hydrating and comforting.
To use, simply apply two pumps in the palm of your hand and gently smooth it all over your face. Gently pat it onto more sensitive areas, like the skin under your eyes. It absorbs almost instantly and will leave your skin soft and soothed.
If you have oily skin, use the Soothing Gel with a facial oil in the morning, and on its own in the evening.
4. Go incognito.
If you're planning to spend a significant amount of time in the sun, don't forget your sun hat and sunglasses. Not only does a hat keep you cooler in the hot sun, but it also protects your face from burning when you're outdoors for a while. To protect your eyes from potentially harmful UVA and UVB rays, pick your sunglasses not only for the way they look, but also for their ability to block out both types of rays. Plus, with your hat and sunglasses on, you can pretend to be a celebrity--at least for a little while.
5. Don't forget the sunscreen.
By now you likely know the importance of sunscreen, especially non-nano sunscreens that aren't harmful to sea life. While a bit of direct sunlight can be beneficial (hello vitamin D!), any more than 10 or 15 minutes and depending on your skin tone could be putting your at risk of sunburn and more serious damage to your skin.
6. Soothe bug bites naturally.
As much as we love summer, those pesky bugs can sometimes get in the way of our enjoyment.
In the case of a bug bite or sting, your skin needs extra care to recover.
Apply a moisturizer that’s designed to protect and restore your skin before, during and after your time out in the sun or wind.
We suggest Green Balm, an all-natural cream with tea tree oil to fight bug bites that also works well for rashes, and even for moisturizing your hands. Green Balm is designed to bring cool, restorative moisture to your skin after exposure to irritants.
You can use Green Balm anywhere on your body to soothe irritated skin.
With a few precautions, your skin can stay healthy and beautiful all summer long.
Now, who's ready for some summertime fun?!
